DJ Gaskin

Expressive Poetry ~ Expressive Journals
March 18 and 25th, 6:30-8:30PM
$120 for both sessions
A dual creativity workshop in two sessions: learn how to practice expressive poetry-writing; and make your own unique hand-stitched softcover journal.

Poet and artist DJ Gaskin helps participants explore the use of poetry reading and writing as a healing and growth aid. In addition, attendees will make their own hand-stitched, personalized journal.

The first session of this two-night workshop will open with some introductory fun, an overview of expressive poetry, outside poem discussion and personal poem-making. The second half of the first session takes participants through the first steps of making their journal. Closing discussion focuses on personalizing their journal covers and optional ‘poemwork’ for second session.

In the second session, participants will further explore the personal growth and healing benefits of reading and writing applicable poetry, with attendees sharing as they choose. The remaining time will be spent customizing their journal covers to express individual personality, concerns or other focus or themes.

Participants will also take away some useful resources for continuing their exploration of expressive poetry and making and using their own unique personal journals. Workshop leader will have supplies available. However, a list of suggested supplies to bring if you have them will be made available to registered participants at least a week before class.
