Falls Church art and ornament gallery Stifel & Capra is pleased to announce “Artists Helping Others” a two- day show and sale to be held in the Great Hall of Vienna Presbyterian Church (VPC), 124 Park Street NE , Vienna VA 22180 , on Friday, August 22 from 6 to 9 pm and Saturday, August 23rd from 12 to 4pm.
The juried show will consist of not only fine art from not only local professional artists but members of the community as well. Proceeds from the show will benefit two well regarded community charities: Homestretch and CHO (Committee for Helping Others).
CHO (http://www.cho-va.com) is an all-volunteer organization that was organized in 1969 by a group of concerned churches and individuals in the Dunn Loring / Merrifield / Oakton / Vienna community to provide simple, loving charity to those in need of goods and services they are unable to provide for themselves or obtain from governmental social service organizations. Membership in CHO is open to all churches, synagogues, civic and service organizations, and individuals interested in improving the quality of life for all in the community.
The Vienna-Tyson’s Regional Chamber of Commerce selected Homestretch as the 2007 Nonprofit Member of the Year. Homestretch (http://www.homestretch-inc.org) , founded in 1990, is the largest provider of transitional housing and services for homeless families with children in Northern Virginia . In addition to providing subsidized housing, the comprehensive program offers job counseling, credit counseling, ESL classes, computer training, life skills training, domestic violence and substance abuse counseling, family mentoring, and children's programs - all aimed at helping families get on their feet and stay that way. A unique evaluation system tracks a family's progress from the time they enter the program to up to two years after they graduate.
“It is exciting to put a show like this together,” says Stifel and Capra founder Theresa Wells Stifel. “To be able to introduce more people in the community not only to the wealth of art talent in our neighborhood and to educate them about what these two exemplary organizations do is a privilege. If a person is interested in helping with the show they can contact me directly.”
In keeping with its vision of being a community devoted to loving and serving its neighbors, and in support of the many years of service provided by these two community organizations, VPC (http://www.viennapres.org) is donating the use of its facility for the show. There will be no admission fee, all are welcome. Join the festivities.
