We started offering art classes in 2009, we plan on expanding them in 2010! Feed your creative soul with a workshop - Drawing, painting, photography manipulation, and printing classes are on the books. Collage, writing & personal goal setting classes are in the works. Friday, March 5, 2010 – DJ Gaskin presents her various ‘paper arts.’

Stifel and Capra is pleased to present local favorite DJ Gaskin as featured artist for First Friday, March 5, from 5 to 8 p.m.

From her Springfield, Va. studio, DJ creates unique journals—from quaint small ones that tuck easily into your pocket or purse, to wildly decorated hardbacks with trinket-sprinkled covers and spines that burst in a celebratory spray of fibers and beads.

“I have a passion for paper,” DJ says. “I love working with it and really enjoy the sensuous textures of handmade and natural papers. I have a few favorite sources, and I’m always on the lookout for unique finds everywhere I go.”

Her accordion art books feature original art and accompanying text. She also makes greeting cards she calls ‘haikugami’ cards that incorporate origami figures and her original haiku on birthday, friendship and other themes.
